Raleigh, NC – Showers and thunderstorms are likely across North Carolina today, with the heaviest rainfall expected in the eastern part of the state, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh.
Forecasters said scattered to numerous showers will develop throughout Saturday morning and afternoon, bringing the potential for 1 to 3 inches of rainfall in localized areas. The Weather Prediction Center has placed eastern North Carolina under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall, while much of central and western North Carolina remains at Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4).
According to NWS Raleigh, the chance of showers and storms will peak during the afternoon hours before tapering off after sunset. Residents are advised to monitor conditions closely, especially in flood-prone areas of eastern counties.
Temperatures are forecast to remain seasonable but humid, ranging from the mid-70s to near 80 degrees across central North Carolina, including Raleigh, Durham, and Fayetteville. Cities in eastern North Carolina, including Greenville, Rocky Mount, and coastal areas, are most likely to experience heavier downpours.
Drivers should be prepared for slick roads and possible ponding on highways during heavier rain bands. Outdoor plans may also be impacted by brief but intense storms.
The NWS urges residents to stay alert for changing conditions and to never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
