Raleigh, N.C. – Much above normal temperatures are expected across central North Carolina today and Friday, with near-record heat possible before a weekend cooldown.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, highs today will run 10 to 15 degrees above average, with widespread temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s. The heat intensifies Friday, when highs are forecast to reach the upper 80s to near 90 degrees across much of the region.
Forecasters say temperatures Friday could climb to around 20 degrees above normal, with the potential to challenge or break daily record highs in several locations.
The unusually warm conditions will persist through Friday before a significant cooldown arrives over the weekend, bringing temperatures back closer to seasonal norms.
While no hazardous weather is expected, the early-season heat may impact outdoor activities, especially during peak afternoon hours.
The warmer-than-normal temperatures may be noticeable for students and commuters, particularly during the afternoon as heat peaks Friday.
