Raleigh, NC – Heavy rain and thunderstorms could impact much of central North Carolina Thursday, bringing a localized flood risk to Wake County and surrounding areas. The National Weather Service warns that slow-moving storms may produce brief downpours capable of ponding on roads and making travel hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a marginal risk for excessive rainfall will continue from Thursday morning through Friday morning. Storm activity may intensify during the afternoon and evening Thursday, with the heaviest rain expected along the I-40 corridor and in low-lying urban areas. Isolated flooding of streets, parking lots, and poorly drained spots is possible.

Drivers are urged to allow extra time for travel, avoid flooded roadways, and watch for sudden visibility reductions in heavy rain. Outdoor events may face interruptions, especially during the late-day peak in storm coverage. While rainfall will ease by Friday afternoon, scattered showers remain possible into the weekend.

Another round of unsettled weather is possible early next week, so residents should stay alert for additional advisories.
