Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Level 1 (Marginal) risk of severe weather across areas west of I-95 later today. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region, primarily affecting the Sandhills and southwestern Piedmont areas. The main threats posed by these storms are damaging winds and frequent lightning.
According to the NWS Raleigh office, the severe weather outlook is in effect from this afternoon into the evening, with the greatest risk occurring between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Residents are advised to stay indoors when thunderstorms approach and to secure loose outdoor items to prevent wind damage. The storms could produce wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, along with significant lightning activity.
The marginal risk classification indicates that isolated severe thunderstorms are possible, though they are expected to be limited in duration and intensity. The NWS emphasizes the importance of staying informed through local weather updates and having a plan in place for severe weather events.
