Raleigh, North Carolina – Rain is expected across much of central North Carolina over the next 24 hours, with the greatest chance for showers arriving during the early afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, most locations will see measurable rainfall today, though amounts are expected to remain modest. Forecast totals range from around one-tenth of an inch across northern areas to up to one-half inch across southern portions of the region. The Weather Service noted that this rainfall will not be sufficient to significantly alleviate ongoing dry conditions.

Probability of precipitation graphics show the highest rain chances occurring from late morning through mid-afternoon Saturday, with probabilities increasing into the 60 to 80 percent range for many cities, including Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, and Greensboro.

Temperatures today are expected to remain cool, with afternoon highs generally in the 40s. Some northern areas may only reach the upper 30s, reinforcing a chilly, damp feel during periods of rain.

Rain chances diminish Saturday evening into early Sunday as the system moves east, with drier conditions expected to follow.

The National Weather Service encouraged residents to plan for wet roads during peak travel times today and to continue monitoring forecasts for any changes in rainfall coverage or timing.
