Raleigh, NC – Rain and gusty winds are expected to move across much of North Carolina today, creating hazardous travel and outdoor conditions through Saturday night, according to the US National Weather Service Raleigh NC.
Forecasters report that rain will spread into the region from the south and east later this morning, increasing in coverage through the afternoon and evening. Rainfall totals could reach 1 to 1.5 inches in parts of central and eastern North Carolina, with locally higher amounts possible.
Northeast winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts over 30 mph, will develop later today and continue into tonight, the Weather Service said. Temperatures will stay mild, with highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.
These conditions follow coastal gale warnings and rip current risks issued earlier for the Wilmington and Cape Fear regions. Together, the widespread rain and wind are expected to make for a soggy start to the Columbus Day holiday weekend.
Drivers should watch for ponding on roads and reduced visibility during heavier downpours, while residents are urged to secure outdoor items due to gusty winds.
