
RALEIGH, N.C. — As October approaches, North Carolina residents have another team to cheer for this season. The Carolina Hurricanes will open their regular season Oct. 9 at home against the New Jersey Devils.
Last season, the Hurricanes finished second in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 47-30. They ended the 2024–25 season with 99 points and a .604 points percentage.
The Hurricanes began their 2025–26 preseason Sept. 22 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, losing 2-1. Carolina recorded 30 shots on goal (SOG) compared to Tampa Bay’s 20.
On Sept. 24, the Hurricanes played their second preseason game at home against the Florida Panthers at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, falling 4-2 despite outshooting Florida 49-16.
Carolina faced the Lightning again Sept. 26, losing 6-5. The Hurricanes had 31 SOG to Tampa Bay’s 28.
The team earned its first preseason win Sept. 28 at home against the Nashville Predators, 4-2. The Hurricanes tallied 38 SOG while the Predators had 20.
Carolina’s short winning streak ended the next day with a 4-3 loss to the Panthers in Florida. The Hurricanes had 19 SOG, while the Panthers had 37.
In their final preseason game, a rematch against the Predators, the Hurricanes fell 3-2, finishing the preseason with a 1-5 record. Nashville had 29 SOG and Carolina had 25.
Despite the rough preseason, the Hurricanes are projected to make the playoffs again this year, which would mark their eighth consecutive postseason appearance.
