Raleigh, NC – Drivers in eastern North Carolina may face hazardous travel conditions early Saturday as dense fog is expected to develop, reducing visibility to dangerous levels.

According to the US National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for areas east of Interstate 95 between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday. Visibility could drop to a quarter-mile or less, making morning travel risky, particularly for commuters and long-haul drivers on I-95.

Forecasters warn that the advisory area could expand further west into the Coastal Plain and eastern Sandhills if fog coverage increases. The fog is expected to be at its thickest during the pre-dawn hours, gradually lifting later in the morning as temperatures rise.

The National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra travel time. Dense fog is one of the leading weather-related hazards for motorists in North Carolina, often contributing to multi-vehicle crashes when drivers are unable to react in time.

Motorists traveling between Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, Goldsboro, and surrounding communities should prepare for rapidly changing visibility along the I-95 corridor and connecting highways.

This advisory follows a week of fluctuating fall weather across North Carolina, with fog expected to pose the most immediate concern heading into the weekend.
