Raleigh, NC – A light winter system will bring a mix of snow and freezing rain across north-central North Carolina late Thursday night into Friday morning, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory from the US National Weather Service in Raleigh.

The advisory takes effect at midnight tonight and continues through Friday evening, covering areas along and north of Interstate 40, including Roxboro, Greensboro, Durham, and Winston-Salem. Snowfall amounts up to one inch are possible, with patchy freezing rain or sleet producing a light glaze on bridges and elevated surfaces.

Forecasters say travel difficulties may arise during the Friday morning commute, particularly near the Virginia border, as temperatures hover in the low 30s. While accumulations are expected to remain light, even minor icing could lead to slick conditions on untreated roads.

Clouds will increase throughout Thursday as colder air moves in, keeping daytime highs below normal for early December. Conditions should slowly improve Friday afternoon as precipitation tapers off, though some slippery spots may persist into the evening.

Drivers are advised to use caution, especially on overpasses and rural routes, and to check for updates if commuting early Friday.
