Raleigh, NC – A strong cold front moving through Central North Carolina tonight could bring isolated storms, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures and a Freeze Warning lasting from Monday night through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh.
Forecasters say a Level 1 (Marginal) Risk for severe storms is in place this evening, mainly between 7 p.m. and midnight, with threats including locally damaging wind gusts and small hail. The system will usher in the coldest air of the season, with overnight lows Tuesday morning plunging into the 20s.
Wind chills are expected to dip into the teens in some areas, and residents are urged to protect pipes, pets, and plants from the hard freeze. Gusty north winds between 20 and 30 mph will make Monday night feel especially cold.
Temperatures will rebound by midweek, but officials stress caution as a quick burst of light rain or flurries may occur late Monday before skies clear.
