Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of central and northern North Carolina, including the Triad, Triangle, and northern Coastal Plain, from 7 a.m. Monday to noon Tuesday.

Forecasters expect snow accumulations ranging from ½ inch to 2 inches, with the highest totals near the Virginia border. A mix of rain and snow is expected Monday morning, changing to all snow by midday before ending by early evening.

According to the NWS, very cold air will move in Monday night, causing a flash freeze in areas where rain or wet snow occurred earlier in the day. This could create black ice and slick roads late Monday night into Tuesday morning, especially on bridges and elevated surfaces.

The Monday morning commute will likely feature rain and snow in the Triad and mostly rain in the Triangle. By the afternoon, both regions should see all snow, with reduced visibility and slippery travel conditions possible.

Drivers should use caution, reduce speed, and allow extra time for travel. Temperatures are expected to plummet into the teens overnight, worsening icy conditions through early Tuesday.
