Raleigh, NC – A freeze watch remains in effect for all of central North Carolina, with temperatures expected to drop into the 20s tonight. Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing before temperatures plunge. The warning applies from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, frost and freeze conditions could severely damage crops and vegetation while posing risks to exposed plumbing. Counties affected include Wake, Durham, Johnston, and others across the region. Overnight lows are forecast to hit 29°F, with the coldest periods expected in rural areas.
Residents should act now to safeguard plants by covering them or bringing them indoors. Garden hoses should be disconnected, and exposed pipes wrapped to prevent freezing. Motorists should exercise caution on bridges and overpasses as the cold could lead to slick spots.
The five-day forecast offers a gradual warm-up after the cold start to Friday. Friday will be sunny with highs around 51°F, but lows will dip again into the low 40s Friday night. Saturday sees highs near 57°F, with patchy frost possible in the morning. By Sunday, temperatures will rise to 62°F, with mostly clear skies. Monday promises even milder conditions, with highs approaching 68°F under sunny skies.
Residents should remain vigilant and plan accordingly as this cold front moves through. For updated information, visit the National Weather Service website or follow local forecasts.
