Raleigh, N.C. – April 2025 shattered temperature records across North Carolina, with Raleigh experiencing its warmest April ever as average nighttime lows surged more than 7 degrees above normal.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, the capital city logged an average temperature of 67.1°F—6.3°F above the 30-year average—marking the hottest April on record. The average low temperature was particularly striking at 56.0°F, up 7.1°F, indicating warmer-than-normal nights across Wake County and surrounding areas. Daytime highs also climbed, reaching an average of 78.2°F, a jump of 5.5°F.

In Fayetteville, April tied as the second warmest on record, with a monthly average of 67.2°F. It also ranked as the city’s 15th driest April, recording only 1.50 inches of rain—1.65 inches below normal. Greensboro also saw its second warmest April, with average lows up 5.5°F and highs nearly 3°F above average.

Warm nights can intensify heat stress and energy demands, particularly for residents relying on air conditioning. Residents are urged to check cooling systems, limit outdoor activity during late afternoons, and hydrate regularly.

Temperatures are expected to remain above average into early May, and more climate updates are likely as the region moves toward summer.
