Raleigh, N.C. – Heat indices could soar to 113 degrees across central North Carolina Monday as an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m., raising serious health concerns and straining infrastructure across the region. A follow-up Heat Advisory is already in place for Tuesday, signaling no immediate relief for residents.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, both the Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory cover a wide swath of the state including Raleigh, Fayetteville, Durham, and Greenville. Tuesday’s advisory will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with heat index values forecast to reach up to 109 degrees. The ongoing heat wave, marked by dangerously high temperatures and limited overnight cooling, significantly raises the risk of heat-related illness.

Counties under the warning and advisory include Wake, Durham, Cumberland, Johnston, and Harnett, among others. Residents are urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, stay hydrated, limit time in the sun, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Power grid strain and increased demand for air conditioning may also result in localized outages.

This prolonged heat event is expected to linger through midweek. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
