Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois will hold onto a stretch of dry, comfortable weather through Tuesday before a sharp change midweek brings rain and a noticeable cool down.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a cold front is expected to push through the region Wednesday, carrying a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs that day will reach the upper 70s to mid-80s, but much cooler air follows quickly behind the front. By Thursday, daytime highs may only top out in the upper 60s across parts of the region, nearly 15 degrees lower than early-week readings.
Peoria, Bloomington, and Decatur are likely to feel the sharpest drop, with overnight lows falling into the mid-40s by Thursday morning. The cooler air mass could linger into the weekend, keeping highs in the low 70s Friday with a mix of sun and clouds.
Travelers and those with outdoor plans should plan around Wednesday’s rain potential, while residents may want to prepare for cooler nights by the end of the week. Additional updates and advisories could be issued if storms develop more widely.
