Springfield, IL – Central Illinois will see a slight chance of rain near I-55 late Tuesday, as a weak system moves through, bringing cooler temperatures to the region. The National Weather Service forecasts a 20% chance of rain Tuesday night, primarily west of I-55, accompanied by breezy conditions.
Following the rain chance, temperatures are expected to drop significantly. By Wednesday morning, lows could fall into the low 30s in some areas, bringing a chill to Central Illinois. Daytime highs on Wednesday will only reach 68-79 degrees, a noticeable shift from the warmer start of the week.
The cooling trend will continue through the end of the week, with overnight lows in the mid-30s expected on Wednesday night, possibly dipping to 34-41 degrees. Residents should prepare for cooler nights as temperatures fall into the 30s and 40s through Thursday, with dry conditions persisting into the weekend.
