Davenport, IA – After a quiet and dry stretch, residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois can expect a return of much-needed rainfall Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities.

Forecasters say clouds will increase today (Monday), with rain moving in early Tuesday morning from west to east. The system is expected to bring the best rain chances in over a week, with widespread totals between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch. The highest amounts — potentially exceeding a half inch — are forecast for southeast Iowa, northeast Missouri, and west-central Illinois.

Rainfall probabilities range from 60% to 80% across the region, with most precipitation occurring during the day Tuesday and tapering off by Wednesday morning. Winds will shift from the northeast at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts near 30 mph possible midweek.

The National Weather Service notes that this rainfall will be beneficial to ongoing drought conditions affecting portions of Iowa and Illinois. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s through midweek.
