Wichita, KS — After a stretch of dry, mild weather, the pattern across central, south-central, and southeast Kansas is set to change as a storm system brings multiple rounds of rainfall late Wednesday night through Friday.

Today stays quiet, with highs ranging from the upper 50s to lower 70s across the region. Wichita is expected to reach the mid-60s, while Coffeyville and Harper may climb toward 70°F.

The weather turns more active Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service anticipates scattered showers and thunderstorms developing late, mainly after sunset. Severe weather is not the primary concern, though a few stronger storms cannot be ruled out.

By Thursday and Friday, rain chances increase significantly, with numerous showers and storms expected both days as moisture deepens over the region. Temperatures will cool down with highs in the upper 50s to upper 60s on Thursday, then dipping further into the upper 40s to mid-60s on Friday.

Forecasters highlight that this system should bring widespread beneficial rainfall. Most locations are projected to receive at least half an inch (0.50″) through Friday, with some spots potentially seeing higher totals depending on thunderstorm placement.

The late-week rainfall could help ease ongoing dryness across parts of the state while also bringing cooler, more November-like conditions.

Residents planning travel late week should monitor updates, especially Thursday and Friday when precipitation coverage is expected to be most widespread.
