Burlington, VT — Heavy rain and gusty winds are set to hit Vermont on Thursday, bringing travel challenges and a wet commute. Motorists, especially those using Route 2, are urged to drive cautiously, as precipitation and wind gusts exceeding 30 mph may reduce visibility and create slick road conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall will begin late Thursday morning and persist into the evening. Burlington could see up to an inch of rain, while northern Vermont may experience slightly lighter precipitation. Peak rainfall is expected between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, coinciding with travel hours.
Thursday night will continue to be wet, with rain showers tapering off by early Friday morning. Little to no snow is anticipated for most areas, except for higher elevations like the Adirondacks and Green Mountains, which may see a dusting. Winds will steadily increase Thursday evening, potentially downing tree branches and power lines in exposed regions.
Looking ahead, Friday will bring scattered showers with a high of 44°F, followed by intermittent rain over the weekend. Saturday morning could see a brief dry spell before showers resume by afternoon. Breezy conditions are forecast through Sunday, with highs remaining in the low to mid-40s.
Residents should secure outdoor furniture and prepare for minor flooding in low-lying areas. Commuters are advised to check updated road conditions and consider delaying non-essential travel.
