New Yorkers can expect a soaking rain today and into Monday morning as a slow-moving cold front sweeps through the region. Widespread showers and cooler temperatures are forecast, creating the potential for hazardous road conditions, especially along Interstate 87 and other major routes. Residents commuting into Albany or traveling through the Hudson Valley should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Albany office, the heaviest rain will fall today, with temperatures struggling to break out of the mid-40s. Rainfall totals could reach 1 to 1.5 inches in some areas, particularly south of the Mohawk Valley. Drivers should reduce speeds and allow extra travel time, as ponding and slick conditions are expected.

The forecast predicts that rain will persist into Monday morning before easing by the afternoon. Lake-effect showers could continue in the Southern Adirondacks later in the day. Winds will shift from the northwest, bringing gusts up to 23 mph by Monday night, adding to potential travel difficulties. The high for Monday is expected to reach 51 degrees in Albany, with colder temperatures in higher elevations.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will offer some relief with partly sunny skies and highs in the 50s. A slight chance of showers may return Tuesday night, but dry, sunny conditions are expected by midweek. The extended forecast shows highs reaching the mid-50s to low 60s later in the week, making Thursday and Friday ideal for outdoor plans.
