Rock Island, IL – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect tonight for eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, where a mix of snow and light ice could make roads slick from Saturday evening through early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, snow is expected to begin around 6 p.m. Saturday, spreading eastward through the night. Areas north of Interstate 80 could see 3 to 5 inches of accumulation, with isolated totals over 5 inches near the Highway 20 corridor. South of I-80, a mix of snow and freezing rain could lead to a light glaze of ice on roadways.
Counties under the advisory include Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll, Whiteside, Henry, Bureau, and Putnam in Illinois, along with Buchanan, Dubuque, Linn, Johnson, Scott, and Muscatine in Iowa.
Officials warn that bridges and overpasses will be especially hazardous overnight, with travel impacts likely during the Sunday morning commute. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution, particularly on Interstate 80 and Highway 20.
