Davenport, IA – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for large portions of Iowa, Illinois, and northeast Missouri beginning late Friday night through 6 a.m. Sunday, as a major winter system threatens to dump 6 to 14 inches of snow across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the heaviest snowfall will likely impact eastern and southeast Iowa, including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Washington, where totals could reach up to 14 inches. Additional warnings extend through Rock Island, Moline, Macomb, Burlington, and Fort Madison, with wind gusts up to 25 mph expected to reduce visibility and create blowing snow conditions.

Forecasters warn that roads, bridges, and overpasses will quickly become slick and hazardous overnight. “Travel could be very difficult to impossible,” the NWS cautioned, advising residents to delay all nonessential travel.

Drivers who must travel are urged to carry a winter emergency kit including food, water, blankets, flashlights, and booster cables. For up-to-date road conditions, residents can check 511ia.org in Iowa, gettingaroundillinois.com in Illinois, and modot.org in Missouri.

Snow is expected to taper off by early Sunday, but cold temperatures will linger, leaving roads slick into the morning commute.
