According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities, the advisory covers Bureau, Putnam, Carroll, Henry, Jo Daviess, Stephenson, and Whiteside counties in Illinois until 7 a.m. CDT Thursday. A separate advisory for Rock Island, Mercer, Henderson, and Warren counties in Illinois, as well as several counties in Iowa and Missouri, remains in place until 4 a.m. CDT.
Winds are expected to range between 20 to 30 mph, with occasional gusts reaching 45 mph. The strong winds pose potential hazards, especially for high-profile vehicles traveling on highways. Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects that may be blown away.
Drivers should exercise caution, particularly on open roads and bridges where wind impact is more pronounced. The NWS recommends reducing speed and maintaining a firm grip on the steering wheel to prevent loss of vehicle control.
