QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Illinois – A few isolated showers and thunderstorms could move across northern and western parts of the region overnight Friday, but forecasters say no severe weather is expected. The chance of rain comes ahead of a cold front that will bring cooler, more comfortable conditions into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the highest storm chances will be north and west of the metro area. Most of the region will remain dry, with lows dipping into the low- to mid-60s overnight.
Saturday will be partly sunny with highs ranging from the low 70s to the low 80s, followed by a stretch of dry, sunny weather through Tuesday. Temperatures will stay below average for late August, with highs holding in the upper 60s to mid-70s and overnight lows dipping into the 40s and 50s by early next week.
Travelers and outdoor plans should go largely uninterrupted, though those in northern Iowa and western Illinois may see brief showers overnight before conditions clear.
Cooler air will stick around into midweek, and the National Weather Service says another stretch of dry weather is expected into early September.
