Quad Cities, IA/IL – A fast-moving clipper system is set to bring widespread accumulating snow to eastern Iowa and far northwest Illinois Saturday night, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory for multiple counties, according to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office.

Forecasters say the advisory primarily affects locations west of a Dubuque-to-Quad Cities line and areas along and north of Interstate 80. Snow is expected to begin Saturday evening, with the advisory running from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for the eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois region.

According to the NWS, widespread snowfall totals are expected to range from 2 to 4 inches, though localized higher amounts are possible depending on where the strongest snow bands develop. The snowfall is expected to be the heaviest overnight, creating the potential for snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.

Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly on untreated surfaces. Meteorologists advise residents to allow extra travel time, check road conditions before heading out, and be prepared for winter driving. Iowa’s travel information can be found at 511ia.org, and Illinois conditions can be monitored at gettingaroundillinois.com.

The advisory covers a broad portion of eastern Iowa, including Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, and extends into northwest Illinois communities north of the Quad Cities metro. Central Iowa remains under a separate Winter Storm Warning.

The system is expected to move out by early Sunday morning, with improving conditions by midday. Residents throughout the region are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as timing and snowfall amounts may shift slightly.
