Davenport, Iowa – Residents along the Wapsipinicon River in Scott and Clinton counties should prepare for minor flooding through Saturday morning as river levels push above flood stage. Water is already affecting low-lying roads near Toronto and Buena Vista, with closures possible on County Road E63 north of the river.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the Wapsipinicon River near DeWitt measured 10.8 feet Wednesday evening and is expected to crest at 11.2 feet early Friday before receding late that night. Flood stage is 11 feet. Officials warn drivers not to cross flooded roadways, noting most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
The flood warning will remain in effect until Saturday morning, replacing the earlier flood watch. Residents in affected communities should keep devices charged, monitor alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel in low-lying areas.
Outside of the flood zone, most of eastern Iowa, including the Quad Cities, will see a stretch of calmer weather. Sunshine returns Thursday, with highs near 80 degrees and light winds. Skies stay mostly clear through the weekend, providing a drier pattern after this week’s river concerns.
Warnings remain in effect until Saturday morning, with further updates expected from the National Weather Service.
