DAVENPORT, Iowa – Thunderstorms will linger across eastern Iowa and western Illinois through Monday evening, bringing the potential for damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service says all storms in the region will also produce frequent lightning and heavy downpours.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, storms will remain scattered but could turn severe at times. The main hazards include winds strong enough to topple tree limbs or power lines and hail capable of denting vehicles or damaging crops. A marginal risk (level 1 of 5) remains in place until Monday night.
Cities at risk include Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Muscatine, where travel could be slowed by sudden heavy rain and low visibility. Lightning will be a widespread concern, prompting officials to urge residents to seek shelter indoors when storms approach.
Emergency managers advise avoiding unnecessary travel during severe weather, keeping mobile devices charged in case of power outages, and having multiple ways to receive warnings overnight.
Storm chances will diminish by late Monday evening, but more unsettled weather may return midweek.
