Davenport, Iowa – Strong storms are expected to hit parts of eastern Iowa and western Illinois Monday night through Tuesday, bringing the threat of damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall that could impact evening commutes and overnight power.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a warm and moist air mass will keep the region unsettled through Wednesday, with scattered storms Sunday and Monday primarily west of the Mississippi River. More widespread severe activity is possible late Monday into Tuesday night, especially along and south of I-80, including areas near Muscatine, Galesburg, and Burlington.

The Storm Prediction Center highlights a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe storms in parts of southeastern Iowa and west-central Illinois Tuesday afternoon. Monday’s risk area extends westward toward Waterloo and Cedar Rapids. Wind gusts over 60 mph and quarter-size hail are the main hazards, with localized flash flooding possible under heavier cells.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor NOAA Weather Radio for warnings, and avoid travel during periods of lightning or intense downpours. If threats intensify, school schedules or local events may be affected.

More storms are expected into midweek. Watches or additional advisories may be issued by Tuesday morning.
