Quad Cities, IL – Spring weather is kicking into full gear as a powerful storm system impacts the Quad Cities region today. A wind advisory is in effect from noon until 7 p.m. CDT, with gusts reaching up to 45 MPH, making for dangerous driving conditions. In addition to the wind, scattered thunderstorms are expected to roll through, with the potential for brief, heavy rain and gusty conditions, especially during the afternoon hours.
According to the National Weather Service, portions of north central and northwest Illinois, as well as southeast Iowa, are at risk of severe weather this afternoon. The most severe conditions are expected in Henry and Putnam Counties, where an enhanced risk of storms could bring damaging winds and hail. Though tornadoes are unlikely, residents should remain cautious, especially when traveling on major roadways such as Interstate 80, where heavy rain and high winds could reduce visibility.
The high winds could blow around unsecured objects, including outdoor furniture and tree limbs, with possible power outages. To stay safe, secure outdoor items and avoid driving high-profile vehicles in gusty conditions. If traveling, allow extra time for your journey and reduce speeds accordingly.
The rest of the week will bring more spring-like conditions, with temperatures staying cool but manageable. Expect partly sunny skies and mild temperatures in the mid-50s on Thursday, with chances for showers later in the week.
