Davenport, Iowa – A sharp cold front will push through the Quad Cities on Wednesday, bringing widespread showers, pockets of thunder, and the first taste of fall for the region. Gusty winds and bursts of heavy rain could slow travel, though severe weather is not expected.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, rain chances will peak Wednesday afternoon into the evening, with the highest risk south and east of the metro. Lightning and brief downpours are possible, particularly along highways and rural routes where visibility may quickly drop.

By Thursday morning, cooler air will settle in, with highs falling into the mid-60s to low 70s and overnight lows dipping into the 40s. Another cold front late Thursday night could spark additional showers before skies begin to clear on Friday.

Residents are advised to keep rain gear handy, allow extra travel time during the evening commute Wednesday, and prepare for much cooler mornings by midweek.

More rain chances could return with the next front, but the main story will be the fall-like chill holding into the weekend.
