Dubuque, IA – Scattered snow showers are moving across eastern Iowa this morning, creating brief periods of reduced visibility and slick travel, according to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities.

The system is mainly affecting areas north of Highway 30, including Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, and Dubuque, and will continue through early Wednesday morning. Forecasters say strong west winds combined with bursts of snow could reduce visibility to under a mile at times.

While snowfall will be light—generally just a dusting to a few tenths of an inch, mostly on grassy and elevated surfaces—temperatures dropping below freezing may cause slick spots on bridges and overpasses.

Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, especially during the morning commute. The Weather Service advises that quick visibility drops and slippery conditions could catch drivers off guard. Conditions should improve later in the morning as snow showers move southeast and winds begin to ease.
