Davenport, Iowa – Roads and low-lying areas across eastern Iowa and western Illinois could begin to flood within the next 24 hours as repeated rounds of rain move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, an active weather pattern will bring an additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall through Saturday, with the heaviest totals expected near and north of Interstate 80, including Davenport, Dubuque, and Sterling.

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to track across the same areas, increasing the risk of localized flash flooding, particularly in urban locations where drainage is poor. While the overall flash flood risk remains low at around 5%, any heavier downpours could quickly overwhelm streets and underpasses.

Rising river levels are also a concern along the Mississippi and surrounding tributaries, especially near Burlington, Muscatine, and Rock Island, where runoff may begin to accumulate.

Drivers along I-74, I-80, and U.S. 61 should watch for water-covered roads during heavier rain periods and avoid driving through flooded areas.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and stay alert for possible flood advisories. Rain is expected to continue through Saturday night, with additional updates likely as rainfall totals increase.
