Moline, Illinois – A light coating of snow is creating slick road conditions across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois early this morning, with drivers facing reduced traction during the pre-dawn commute.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, light snow and flurries will taper off before daybreak Wednesday, with total accumulation ranging from a dusting up to 0.5 inches, highest in northwest Illinois. Even minor accumulation is enough to create slippery stretches, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Cities including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, and Rock Island are seeing patchy slick spots along I-74, I-80, and local surface streets. Visibility remains generally good, but sudden braking could be hazardous on snow-dusted pavement.
Temperatures will steadily rise above freezing by early afternoon, reaching the upper 30s to near 40°F across the region. This warming trend will help melt remaining snow and improve travel conditions through the day.
Drivers should slow down during the morning commute, allow extra stopping distance, and check local road conditions before heading out conditions improve by midday, but early hazards remain a concern until temperatures fully climb above freezing.
