DAVENPORT, Iowa – Summerlike heat will grip eastern Iowa and western Illinois through Thursday, keeping afternoon highs in the upper 80s to low 90s before thunderstorms bring relief late in the week.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, most of the region will stay dry until Thursday night, when the chance for scattered showers and storms increases to 20–50 percent. Winds remain light from the east at 5 to 10 mph, offering little relief from the unseasonable warmth.

Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Moline, and surrounding communities can expect mid-90s temperatures during the day with muggy overnight lows in the 60s. A few isolated showers may pop up northwest of Cedar Rapids on Wednesday but most locations will remain dry.

The heat could impact outdoor workers, students at after-school events, and farm crews still active in the fields. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on neighbors without reliable cooling.

Conditions may shift late Thursday as storms develop, potentially bringing brief downpours and lightning. More widespread rainfall is possible into the weekend.
