Quad Cities, IA/IL – Drivers across eastern Iowa and western Illinois are waking up to dense fog and slick travel conditions early Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. CST, with visibility dropping below a quarter of a mile in many locations.

Forecasters warn that temperatures near or below freezing may cause ice to form on bridges and overpasses, making travel especially hazardous through the early morning hours. Residents are urged to use low beam headlights, allow extra travel time, and increase following distance on all roads.

The fog is widespread across the region, impacting Interstate 80, U.S. Highway 61, and surrounding routes. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise as fog begins to lift under light winds.

NWS officials emphasize the risk of rapidly changing visibility, especially in rural and river valley areas, and encourage motorists to drive cautiously until midmorning.
