Quad Cities, IA – The Quad Cities area is bracing for snow and dangerously low wind chills starting Wednesday as an arctic weather system moves in.
According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities office, scattered snow showers are expected Wednesday morning, accompanied by strong winds and plummeting temperatures. Wind chills could dip as low as -20°F by midweek, making frostbite a concern for anyone exposed for extended periods.
Highs on Wednesday will hover around 20°F but will feel much colder due to gusts up to 30 mph. Snow accumulations are expected to be light but could create slippery road conditions during the morning commute.
On Thursday, another system may bring additional snow, particularly along the Interstate 80 corridor, with the coldest daytime highs reaching only the upper teens. By Friday evening, a mix of rain and snow is possible as temperatures slightly rebound into the 30s.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and drive cautiously on potentially icy roads. Emergency services recommend preparing for travel delays and monitoring weather updates closely.
