Quad Cities, IA – A major winter storm is impacting eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and bitter cold through early Thursday. Residents can expect treacherous road conditions and dangerously low wind chills.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will continue through Wednesday night, with accumulations reaching 4 to 6 inches. Higher totals of up to 8 inches are possible along the I-80 corridor from Cedar Rapids to Davenport. Winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, will create blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Temperatures will plummet into the single digits by Thursday morning, with wind chills reaching -20°F in some areas. Drivers should use caution as ice and snow will make roads hazardous. Travel impacts will be most severe Wednesday evening into early Thursday.

Another winter system is expected to bring more snow Friday night into Saturday. Residents should prepare for bitter cold throughout Valentine’s weekend, with lows dipping below zero Saturday night.
