Quad Cities, IA/IL – Unseasonably warm January weather is expected to continue across eastern Iowa and western Illinois this week, but a late-week storm system could bring rain — and possibly snow — before the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, temperatures will remain well above normal through midweek, with daytime highs climbing into the 40s and 50s across much of the region. Areas along and south of Interstate 80 could see the warmest conditions, while northern locations stay closer to the 40s.
For Monday night, lows are expected to dip into the 30s, with areas of fog possible, especially near Highway 20. Drivers are urged to remain alert for reduced visibility during overnight and early morning hours.
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday will feature off-and-on cloud cover with continued mild temperatures. Conditions begin to change Thursday, when an approaching storm system is expected to bring widespread rain to much of eastern Iowa, western Illinois, and the Quad Cities metro area, including Scott County, Rock Island County, Davenport, Bettendorf, and Moline.
Rain chances increase Thursday night into Friday, with forecasters noting a potential transition from rain to snow late Friday into Saturday as cooler air moves in. While exact snowfall amounts remain uncertain, even light accumulations could impact weekend travel if temperatures fall quickly.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts later this week as confidence increases regarding timing, precipitation type, and potential travel impacts.
