Quad Cities, IA/IL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities reports that the first measurable snow of the season is expected late this afternoon into tonight as rain transitions to snow across eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois.
The changeover will occur first north of Highway 30 between 3–6 p.m., spreading south through the evening. Snowfall rates could reach ½ to 1 inch per hour at times, briefly reducing visibility. Most areas will see less than 1 inch of accumulation, but localized bands of 1–2 inches are possible if colder air arrives faster.
Temperatures above freezing will limit accumulation to grassy and elevated surfaces, but slick spots could develop overnight on bridges and untreated roads.
Behind the snow, December-like cold will move in with highs in the mid-30s Sunday and Monday and wind chills dipping into the single digits and teens. Light flurries may continue into Monday.
