Davenport, Iowa – The Quad Cities are starting the new year on a quiet and seasonable note, with cold temperatures but no significant weather hazards expected through the upcoming weekend. After a busy end to December in many parts of the Midwest, conditions across eastern Iowa and western Illinois are offering a calmer reset for New Year’s Day.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, temperatures today will remain in the low 20s to low 30s, with highs staying near or just below freezing across much of the region. Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, and Bettendorf will see a mix of clouds and filtered sunshine, but dry air will keep precipitation out of the picture.

Tonight, temperatures dip back into the 20s, setting the stage for another cold but quiet day Friday. Highs Friday and Saturday are expected to reach the upper 20s to mid 30s, keeping roads dry and travel conditions favorable across major routes including I-80, I-74, and Highway 61.

Sunday brings a subtle warming trend as milder air edges into the region. Afternoon highs may climb into the upper 30s and approach 40 degrees in some southern locations, especially near the Mississippi River corridor. Despite the gradual warmup, no rain or snow is expected through at least Sunday afternoon.

The lack of precipitation also means no ice concerns, helping keep sidewalks, parking lots, and untreated roads in good shape for weekend travel and outdoor plans. Residents should still dress for cold conditions, especially during early mornings and evenings.

This quiet stretch is expected to continue into early next week, though changes could arrive beyond the weekend. For now, the Quad Cities can expect a stable and uneventful start to 2026, with no advisories in effect and minimal weather-related disruptions.
