Davenport, IA – Residents in the Quad Cities region are waking up to scattered thunderstorms moving through early Sunday morning, bringing lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours, according to the National Weather Service in Quad Cities.

As of 2:30 a.m. CDT, radar showed multiple storm cells moving northeast at 40 to 45 mph across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Davenport, Iowa City, and Burlington. Some of the stronger storms may produce gusts up to 40 mph, cloud-to-ground lightning, and hail up to half an inch in diameter.

Passing downpours are also reducing visibility in spots, and the NWS advises residents to seek shelter indoors until storms move out of the area around 5 a.m.

No widespread severe weather is expected, but isolated stronger cells could persist through early morning before weakening after sunrise.
