Davenport, IA – The first snowflakes of the season could arrive across eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois Saturday evening as colder air moves in behind a passing weather system, according to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities.

Forecasters say rain will move across the region Saturday afternoon before changing to snow mainly north of Highway 30 by evening. While uncertainty remains regarding how far south snow will reach, areas from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque and Sterling could see light accumulations on grassy and elevated surfaces.

Due to warm and wet ground conditions, most snow is not expected to stick. However, temperatures will fall sharply Saturday night into Sunday morning, potentially freezing any remaining moisture on roads and creating slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Little to no measurable accumulation is anticipated for the Quad Cities metro itself, though drivers should still use caution if traveling Saturday evening through early Sunday.
