Davenport, Iowa – A fast-moving clipper system will bring another round of snow to eastern Iowa and western Illinois Monday, creating slick travel and reduced visibility through the evening commute. Snow is expected to begin late morning to early afternoon and move quickly from west to east, tapering off by late evening.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, most locations will see between 1 and 4 inches of accumulation, with the higher totals likely along and south of Interstate 80, including Burlington, Macomb, and the Quad Cities area. The snow will be light and fluffy but could briefly fall at rates over half an inch per hour, leading to quick reductions in visibility.

Officials caution that even light snow can be dangerous — nearly 75% of weather-related crashes in Iowa occur with less than two inches of snow. Drivers are urged to slow down, leave extra following distance, and check road conditions before traveling.

Snow will exit the region by mid-evening, but lingering slick spots may persist overnight as temperatures fall below freezing. Another round of light snow may arrive later this week as the active winter pattern continues across the Upper Midwest.

Warnings remain in effect through Monday evening.
