Davenport, Iowa – Dense fog is slowing travel across the Quad Cities early Wednesday, with reduced visibility and a few slick spots possible before conditions improve later this morning.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, fog will persist through mid to late morning as temperatures remain near or below freezing, especially north of Highway 30. As the fog lifts, clouds will break for some sunshine, allowing highs to climb into the low to mid 40s across eastern Iowa and into the upper 40s to mid 50s in parts of western Illinois.

Rain becomes the main concern Thursday as a widespread system moves in, bringing soaking rainfall to the region. Forecasters expect rainfall totals to exceed a half inch in some locations, which could lead to ponding on roads and reduced visibility during heavier showers. Highs Thursday will remain mild, reaching the mid 40s in northeast Iowa and the upper 50s across west-central Illinois.

A brief lull in precipitation is expected Friday before another system arrives late Friday night into Saturday. As colder air filters in, rain is expected to change over to snow, with Saturday bringing cooler temperatures in the low to mid 30s and gusty west winds.

Drivers should remain cautious during foggy conditions this morning and plan for changing travel conditions heading into the weekend. Additional updates are expected as confidence increases in snowfall timing and impacts.
