Davenport, IA – Residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois should brace for the coldest air of the season this weekend as a December-like chill settles in starting Saturday night.

According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities, temperatures will tumble sharply, with highs Sunday and Monday only reaching the 30s. Gusty northwest winds will make it feel much colder — in the teens and even single digits during the early morning hours.

Forecasters say the bitter air will arrive with a chance of light flurries or snow showers on Sunday, especially in open and rural areas. The sharp drop will feel more like mid-December than early November, marking a major shift after a stretch of mild fall weather.

Wind chills are expected to bottom out between 8°F and 15°F Monday morning in locations such as Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Princeton, while Davenport and Burlington will hover near the teens. Officials urge residents to dress in layers, protect pets from the cold, and check vehicles for winter readiness as the region experiences its first significant blast of winter-like conditions.

Temperatures are expected to remain below normal into midweek before slowly moderating later next week.
