Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Scattered thunderstorms will continue across parts of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois through mid-evening Wednesday, bringing locally heavy rainfall, lightning, and minor flooding risks to the region.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the overall threat for widespread heavy rain has eased, but storms are still likely through at least 10 p.m. Coverage will range from 30% to 60%, with the highest concentration expected over northwest Illinois, including cities like Freeport, Sterling, and the Quad Cities metro.

Storms are expected to be slow-moving, which may lead to localized downpours and brief flooding in low-lying areas and some roads. Occasional lightning is also a concern, particularly during the evening commute. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roadways and head indoors when thunder is heard.

Burlington, Clinton, and Maquoketa are among the cities likely to see pop-up cells during the early evening hours. The flood threat remains low overall (Level 1 of 5), but isolated issues are possible.

More scattered showers could persist overnight, though coverage will decrease. Another round of updates is expected early Thursday.
