Davenport, Iowa – Isolated thunderstorms could bring quarter-size hail and damaging wind gusts to parts of eastern Iowa and western Illinois through Thursday evening, mainly along and north of Interstate 80.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, there is a 20% chance of severe thunderstorms across the region, with the greatest risk north of the I-80 corridor. While confidence in storm development remains low, any storms that do form may produce dangerous lightning, wind gusts strong enough to down branches, and hail up to the size of quarters.
Communities from Cedar Rapids and Dubuque in Iowa to Sterling and Geneseo in Illinois should stay weather-aware today. Most storms, if they develop, are expected to be short-lived and isolated, but could impact outdoor activities or early evening travel. The timing window runs through 9 p.m.
Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and head indoors if thunder is heard.
No additional advisories are in effect as of Thursday morning, but updates are possible if storm activity increases this afternoon.
