Quad Cities, IA/IL — Spring weather will take a sharp turn Friday night as rain and freezing overnight lows return to the Quad Cities.
A strong cold front will push through eastern Iowa and western Illinois late Friday, bringing a 70% chance of showers and wind gusts up to 20 mph, particularly along the I-74 corridor. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will fall to the low 40s Friday night and continue dropping into the 30s by Saturday night.
Residents should prepare for slick roadways Friday evening and early Saturday, especially during overnight travel. Drivers along I-74 and surface streets near Davenport and Moline should slow down and watch for water pooling on roads.
Friday afternoon will start partly sunny with a high near 55°F. Showers are likely to develop after 1 p.m., with rain lasting through the evening. Saturday stays mostly cloudy with a high near 54°F before a second round of colder air moves in Saturday night, dropping temperatures to around 31°F.
Sunday will bring brief relief with sunny skies and a high near 54°F, but another cold night will follow with lows dipping to 32°F. Monday and Tuesday are expected to be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid to upper 40s.
Residents are urged to check local forecasts and dress in layers for fluctuating spring temperatures. Keep umbrellas handy through Friday evening and prepare for colder nights through early next week.
