Quad Cities, IA/IL – Dry and drought conditions are spreading across Illinois this week, with forecasts showing little relief through at least Thursday, October 2.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Quad Cities, widespread moderate to severe drought continues across central and southern Illinois. A few pockets of moderate drought are also developing in northern Illinois. Recent rainfall brought slight improvement along the Iowa-Missouri border, but much of the region remains abnormally dry.

The latest Drought Monitor report, released Thursday, September 25, highlights worsening conditions across the Midwest. Extreme southeastern Iowa and far northeast Missouri experienced minimal short-term relief from scattered showers, but most areas will stay dry.

Forecasters say generally dry and warm conditions are expected to persist, prolonging impacts to agriculture, local water supplies, and soil health. If the trend continues, drought stress could expand further into early October.

Residents and farmers are encouraged to monitor official drought updates and report local impacts to help track conditions.
