Illinois and eastern Iowa start the morning under a gray sky as wet snow taps windshields and fog blurs brake lights. Pavement looks soaked, but slushy patches form quickly as snow mixes in.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, light accumulating wet snow is likely this morning. Up to one inch is possible, mainly across northern Illinois. While totals stay modest, slushy travel conditions can develop quickly during heavier bursts.

Across the Quad Cities, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline, drivers should expect slick stretches on I-80, I-74, and area bridges. Visibility may drop fast if snow squalls develop later today. Gusty winds can briefly intensify snowfall and reduce sightlines.

Temperatures hover in the low to mid-30s through the day. That keeps snow wet and heavy, limiting blowing snow impacts for now. Flash freezing is not expected during squalls, but untreated roads can still turn slick, especially in shaded areas and on ramps.

Conditions calm tonight as skies gradually clear. Lows dip into the lower 20s, allowing leftover moisture to freeze. Drivers heading out early Sunday should watch for icy spots where slush lingers.

Sunday turns brighter and colder, with sunshine and highs near the lower 30s. Winds remain noticeable but lighter than today. Sunday night stays mostly clear with lows in the upper 20s.

Early next week trends quieter and milder. Monday reaches the mid-40s under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday pushes near 50 degrees, offering a brief January thaw before cooler air returns midweek.

For today, slow down during snow bursts, increase following distance, and be ready for rapid visibility changes. Winter impacts may be brief, but they arrive without warning.
